DUSHYANT SHAH Obituary

SHAH, Dushyant "DJ" Our beloved Dushyant J. "D.J." Shah of Weston, died unexpectedly, at the age of 77, on August 12. He passed calmly and with grace, as was his style, after a severe bout of pneumonia. DJ was the fifth of six children born to Jayantilal and Vilas Shah in Mumbai, India. After Jayantilal died suddenly, when DJ was 11, DJ's mother, Vilas, took over the family business while raising her children and was an inspiration to DJ. DJ came to the U.S. at the age of 18, graduated from MIT, and started a successful and long-running practice as a financial planner. He had great passion for his work and continued to work for his clients until his hospitalization. Ever active, he was an avid yoga practitioner and instructor, Boy Scout leader, and past president of Wightman Tennis Center. DJ lit up a room with his smile, presence and laughter. He loved to laugh and always had a joke to share with a bit of advice. He was a keeper of stories and family history, and was always happy to recount a favorite anecdote. He will be missed by his cherished wife of 43 years, Andrea; by his daughter, Dr. Lisetta Shah and her husband, Chris; by his son, Vinay Shah; by his brothers: Vijay Shah, Pradip Shah and his wife, Rupa; by his sisters: Nandini Shah and her husband, Jyotindra, Dr. Heena Banker and her husband, Rajni, and Dr. Rashmi Shah; by his dearly beloved grandsons, Milo and Marten; and many nieces and nephews. He particularly loved being a grandparent and in his final weeks, visits from his young grandsons brought him great joy. Family and friends meant everything to DJ and included his yoga teachers and buddies; his walking pal, Lloyd; his many tennis partners, including Roger; his phone pal, Alan; school mates from the Modern School in Mumbai; neighbors; his long time business assistant Ronnie; clients of D.J. Shah Financial Services; and his business associates. He enjoyed laughing with them over the phone and on the internet and trading jokes, cartoons, and funny stories. The family has held a private reflection on his extraordinary life and wishes to thank the amazing and dedicated team of doctors and nurses that cared for him recently. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a future date. If you like, bring a funny DJ story to share! Children will be welcomed. Please contact [email protected] if you would like to receive an invitation. If you have any cherished photos of DJ, please send them to the above email address; the family would love to see and share them. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Partners in Health, pih.org or Worcester County Food Bank, foodbank.org or Greater Boston Food Bank, GBFB.org would be greatly appreciated.

Dushyant assisted in Patricia Walden´s Iyengar classes which I took for many years. Whenever I am in a pose and look at my feet, I can almost feel the gentle nudge of Dushyant´s foot bringing mine back into alignment. He was exacting and kind. My deep condolences to his family and broad network of friends.
