Marilyn Carrie Toner, age 95, of Edon, Ohio, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, at the CHP Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio.
Marilyn was born on April 23, 1930, to William Carleton Allomong and Blanche "Rosemary" Roseberry Allomong in Edon, Ohio.
Marilyn's first three years of education were in Mark's Country School, a one-room schoolhouse. It was a one-quarter mile walk from her home. The remainder of her school years were at Florence-Edon School, where she graduated in 1948. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University for two years before transferring to Defiance College, graduating in 1952. Marilyn taught first grade at York School in Fulton County for three years.
On June 12, 1955, she married John G. Toner at Edon Methodist Church. While he was in the United States Marine Corps, they lived at: Triangle, Virginia; Fort Sill-Lawton, Oklahoma; Camp Pendleton, California; and Oahu, Hawaii. Upon her husband's retirement from the Marine Corps, they moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Marilyn again taught first grade for three years. She then moved back to Edon, Ohio, where she spent the remainder of her life.
She was a member of Edon United Methodist Church and a Friend of the Edon Public Library. She was a former member of the Elliot Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Marilyn is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends Mary Ellen and Estel Wyrick. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on June 15, 2022; her parents; sisters, Marjorie Cornell and Phyllis Headley; and a brother, John Allomong.
Visitation for Marilyn will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. with her funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at Edon United Methodist Church, Edon, Ohio. Pastors Eric Dailey and Doug Widdowson will officiate. Burial will follow at Edon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Edon Public Library.
