Brock Nelson Obituary

Brock Jeffrey Nelson, age 35 of La Cresent, MN died in an ATV accident in Montrose County, Colorado on September 13, 2025.

Brock was born on January 22, 1990 at Winona Health Hospital to Scott and Rebecca (Chiglo) Nelson. His birth was celebrated by his immediate family who couldn’t wait for his arrival. Dr. John Petersen delivered Brock and often referred to Brock as his “Full Nelson”.

Brock was baptized at the Rushford Lutheran Church and was confirmed at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, Minnesota. Brock attended school in Houston where he excelled in baseball; wrestling, as a state champion; and football, where he achieved all-conference his sophomore and junior years. He graduated from Caldonia High School in 2008. Brock’s true love was spending time racing and excelling in Motocross. He was on his dirt bike before learning to ride a pedal bike. Brock loved anything with a motor which included snowmobiles, 4-wheelers, dirt bikes and boating with his friend Traye. He also loved hunting and was on a trip of a lifetime with his brother at the time of his death. He was so proud to tell his father that he had downed an elk just prior to the accident, .

Brock was a handworker. In high school, he worked at the Houston Sprout Farm and Mount La Crosse with his buddy Travis Baumgartner. After high school he attended Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Brock worked across the tri-state area, including for JB Holland in Decorah, Iowa, as a heavy equipment operator and with Woody’s Tree Service in La Crescent, Minnesota, and alongside his Uncle Tim wherever the job took them. He was most recently employed by Mathiowetz Construction, where he was able to work with great friends and a boss he dearly loved, Adam Kimball. He loved his work and spoke very highly of the company and his friends he made along the way. In addition to his construction work, Brock joined his father as a partner in Scott & Brock Nelson Logging. He was a fantastic log cutter and was running skidder at the age of 12. Brock deeply valued that he was able to work side-by-side with his father and best friend - they had an unbreakable bond.

Brock is survived by his fianceé; Audray Schlenvogt, his parents; Scott and Becky Nelson of Houston, MN, best friend and brother; Beau Nelson (Samantha Ryckman) of Rushford, MN. He is further survived by his Grandparents; Darlene Chiglo of Rushford, MN, and Jeanne and Larry Weaver of Foley, AL; his Aunts and Uncles; Terry (Deb) Chiglo of Houston, MN, Traci (Cory) Pederson of Whalan, MN, Jay (Rebekah) Nelson of Reeseville, WI, Stacey Nelson, and Tait Wege of West Salem, MN.

He is further survived by his cousins; Kennedy (Michael) Babicz, Carter (Kirsten) and Layne Chiglo, Harison (Adrianna Reinhart) Chiglo, Jack Chiglo; Cade and Coy Pederson; Jesse, Kelsey, Alex and Brady Nelson; Cody Nelson, Seth Paresens and Abigal Nelson and his special Godparents Tim and Gwen Nelson alongside their children Craig, Melinda, and Nicole.

Brock was a social butterfly; he had a kind heart and would do anything for anyone. He loved his Detroit Lions- cheering for them from the time he was a small child until the day he left us, he never wavered.

He was preceded in death by his Grandfathers; Glen Nelson, Roger Chiglo; Uncle Jeffrey Chiglo; Great Uncle Verle Ramsey; and his forever faithful bulldog, Dozer.

Recently Brock was able to fulfill his dream of owning a farm. He loved that place and took great pride in updating it and making it his and Audrey’s home. He was so proud of his hard work.

Private family services are being planned. A celebration of Brock’s Life will be held from 2-6pm on Sunday September 21, 2025, at the La Crescent Event Center, in La Crescent, MN.

A scholarship will be set up for individuals going into the heavy equipment industry.
