Our Uncle George was an inspiration to me. He did what he loved and inspired me to never stop learning. I remember when I was in 2nd grade, my sense of overconfidence in having learned some big words, so I challenged Uncle George to a spelling Bee! He won, of course, but I loved that he let me try anyway. He was a gentle and kind Uncle and so very intelligent. His passing marks the end of an Era, all of the Bissingers who used to live at the Jenkintown house across from Noble Station are now together again in Heaven. Grandmom and Grandpop Bissinger, Dad, Uncle David, Aunt Barbara and now Uncle George. I see their old house all the time and remember the secret door down the basement steps and the games and toys stored there. I remember we were never allowed to go up to the 3rd floor and bother Uncle George, because he might be working. He had all his violins up there. My fondest memories of the Bissingers involves classical music and a museum somewhere out near Harrisburg, can someone remind me who had the museum? Anyway, we will miss you, Uncle George. Thank you for being such an inspiration of the good and quiet life that is possible.

George and I spent quite a lot of time in Chapel Hill, sharing an office in the physics building and sharing a house where I enjoyed his immense collections of classical recordings.
What I would lie to know is where is the remembrance gathering to be held and when.
I currently live in Greenville.

Dr. Bissinger was a passionate about the physics of acoustical instruments - specifically violins. I knew him through my work at ECU in the College of Arts and Sciences. He was always a good colleague and I am sorry to hear about his passing.
