Julia Leonard Obituary

Julia Marie Leonard, 58, of Southport, NC, passed away on May 9, 2025 at her home in St. James. Julia was born in Washington, DC to John William Leonard and Joan Conley Leonard on May 31, 1966. Julia attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland with a Master's degree in English. For much of her career, Julia worked in the aerospace industry as a technical writer and editor for Lockheed Martin and as a Manager of Technical Publications for Integral Systems. In August 2020, Julia moved from Annapolis, MD to Southport, NC. She married Jim Schuetzle on October 19, 2022 in Asheville, NC. Julia was an artist who created unique mixed media compositions by combining painting with Japanese paper. Her favorite subjects were flowers and she also loved making flower arrangements for her home, her husband and her friends. Julia's interests included beaches and sea shells, fashion, and she was an avid reader. Julia loved all animals, and she had a particular fondness for dogs. Julia is preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Joan Leonard. She is survived by her husband, Jim Schuetzle; her brother, Jim Leonard; and her nephews, Ethan Leonard and Justin Leonard. Julia touched the hearts and minds of everyone she met. We will miss her love, her kindness and her gentle spirit. A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a future date.
