In Loving Memory of Augustus Charles Cupeto, Jr.
January 25, 1937 - July 1, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Augustus Charles Cupeto, Jr., of Chesapeake City, Maryland, who died peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born on January 25, 1937, in Mountain City, Tennessee, Charles was the son of the late Augustus Charles Cupeto, Sr., and Ella Jean Cupeto (née Tripplett). He lived a long, full life marked by hard work, unwavering devotion to family, and deep service to his community.
At 18, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Following the untimely death of his father, he was honorably discharged to return home and support his family. In the years that followed, he worked as a sheet metal craftsman and later established his own successful construction business, Precision Builders, Inc. He also became a licensed real estate broker and property investor, combining entrepreneurial spirit with a keen eye for opportunity.
Charles gave generously of his time to his beloved Chesapeake City. He was an active and proud member of the Chesapeake City Volunteer Fire Company, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Chesapeake City Town Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, Neighborhood Association, served on the Board of the Pinecroft Condominium Association and Cecil Federal Bank Board. He was respected for his tireless dedication and his commitment to making his community a better place.
Though known for his tough streak and outspoken nature, Charles had a big heart and a quick wit. He quickly won over the hearts of his in-laws and became a bigger-than-life member of the family. He was the family jokester, especially with children, and he proudly wore the title of "fun uncle." His playful teasing and lighthearted antics created lasting memories for generations.
Charles found joy in many things-flying his Cessna airplane (often giving his passengers a scare for laughs), watching football and NASCAR, and listening to bluegrass and country music. But above all, his greatest joy was his wife, Emily, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years. Together they split their time between their Florida condo, their Virginia mountain getaway, and their home in Chesapeake City, always surrounded by the warmth of family.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife, Emily Cupeto; his son, Michael Joseph Cupeto; his daughter, Mandy Sue Cupeto (and fiancé, Thomas Mancari); granddaughters, Eleanor Leeann Cupeto-Culhane (and husband David Culhane) and Reese Marie Cupeto; and great-grandson, James Charles Culhane. He is also survived by his siblings, Rosemary Denny and Michael Cupeto (and wife Debbie); and daughters-in-law, Judy Cupeto and Lorraine Cupeto.
He was preceded in death by both parents, his son, Jeffrey Charles Cupeto; his brother, Joseph Cupeto; and his sister, Barbara Hampton.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyal service. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 12PM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where friends and family may begin visiting at 11AM. To send online condolences, please visit
