Christine Ward Obituary

Christine Delp Ward, age 91, of Chesapeake City, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at her home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Born on August 22, 1933, in Alsace Township in Berks County, Pennsylvania, during the Great Depression, Christine was the beloved daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Kochan) Delp. A bright and determined student, she graduated in 1951 as Valedictorian of Muhlenberg Township High School in Laureldale, PA, setting the tone for a life defined by intelligence, grace, and perseverance.

After high school, Christine moved to Washington, D.C., where she began working at the Pentagon in the secretarial pool for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It was there that she met the love of her life, Lieutenant Commander G. Patrick Ward, a naval officer. The two were later married in 1961 in Naples, Italy -- a romantic beginning to their lifelong partnership. In 1964, they made their home in Cecil County, Maryland, to raise their two children.

While Patrick attended law school, Christine worked as a secretary at a company in Middletown, DE, then Thiokol in Elkton, MD, then Terumo in Elkton, MD, to support their young family. Eventually, she joined him as a legal secretary, and together they built a respected and successful law practice. Christine was not only a devoted partner in life but also in work, contributing her keen organizational skills and professionalism to their shared endeavors.

Outside of her career, Christine had a variety of interests that reflected her sharp mind and appreciation for beauty. She was an avid bridge player and had a deep interest in history, especially enjoying tours of historic homes. A meticulous homemaker, she took great pride in her surroundings and was known for her impeccable organization-a trait her family remembers fondly.

Christine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, G. Patrick Ward, her parents, and her dear sister, Mary Sandra "Sandy" Delp.

She is survived by her devoted children: Michele Ward; Michael P. Ward and his wife Beth and her cherished grandchildren: Emily Ward and Brittany Borgese; and her beloved sister, Pauline Delp Schroeder.

Christine's presence, warmth, and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In accordance with her wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Christine D. Ward.
