Martha Lay Obituary

Martha "Betty" Elizabeth Lay, 86 years, of Perryville, MD, passed away Monday, November 18, 2024 at home. Born February 7, 1938 in Perry Point, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Hunter, Sr., and Charlotte Bauer Hunter.

Betty was a lifelong active member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Perryville, MD, and the Episcopal Church Women, wherein she served as a senior warden, Lay reader, chalice bearer, vestry member, leader of altar guild, member of ECW, and longtime member of the choir.

Betty was formerly employed in Personnel by the V.A. Maryland HealthCare System of Perry Point, MD.

Betty is survived by her son, Gary P. Lay; daughter, Tammi L. Lay; three grandchildren, Katherine Lay, Gianna Lay, and Owen Lay, and brother, Clifford Hunter, Jr.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sydney Lay; granddaughter, Carman Joann Lay; and sisters, Katherine Carson and Bertha Reynolds.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Amedisys Hospice Foundation in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 766, Perryville, MD 21903-0766.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, 2024, 11 AM, at the St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, November 25, 2024, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., of Perryville, MD. Rev. Susan Oldfather of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mark's Church Cemetery, Perryville, MD.
