Jesse Brookshire, 81, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025. Born on September 5, 1943, in Converse, Indiana, Jesse lived a life marked by humility, devotion, and service to others.
A 1962 graduate of Oak Hill High School, Jesse went on to build a long and dedicated career as a millwright at Chrysler in Kokomo. Over the course of four decades, he became known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence before retiring in 2006.
Jesse was a loving husband and father who placed family and faith at the center of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Franks Brookshire; his children, Lee (Lisa) Brookshire and Lance (Sara) Brookshire; and his bonus children, Robert (Jerlene) Franks, Jeffrey (Dottie) Franks, and Marcy (Anthony) Moreillon; grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Maudie (Morgan) Brookshire; his first wife and the mother of his children, Jean Ann Brookshire; and his siblings Don Brookshire, Ed Brookshire, and Nancy Gilliam.
A faithful member of the Converse Church of Christ, Jesse lived each day with a deep commitment to pleasing God. His humility was evident in every aspect of his life – he never sought recognition but always gave freely of himself. Whether it was through carpentry projects or repairing broken items for friends and neighbors without expecting anything in return, Jesse's generosity knew no bounds.
In retirement, he embraced every moment with purpose. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, reading, and especially woodworking – crafting furniture, toys, and trucks with skillful hands. His talents were matched only by his willingness to help others. Jesse's legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and selfless love.
The visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 4pm to 8pm at Converse Church of Christ 301 East Wabash Street, Converse. Lee, Sorry to hear about your Dads passing. I remember talking to him at Chrysler. He was a great man.

My mother and father were both raised in the Sweetser area. We had Brookshire relatives in the Marion and Converse areas. I'm not sure what relation we were to Jesse, but I believe we were probably related.
