Richard Jaeger Obituary
Richard Jaeger, 77
Richard Arthur Jaeger, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, in Olympia, Washington, just one day after celebrating his 77th birthday.
Rich was born on June 23, 1948, in Oak Harbor, Washington, to Shirley and Roland Jaeger. He grew up in Eastern Washington and graduated from Garfield High School in the Palouse region in 1966. The following year, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served honorably as a firefighter in Germany and at Fairchild Airforce Base in Spokane until his discharge as a Sergeant in 1973.
While still in high school, Rich met the love of his life, Karen Kolowinski. After returning home in 1971, they married and later that year welcomed their first daughter, Candi. In 1972, Rich began working at Simplot Soilbuilders, starting by sweeping fertilizer. His strong work ethic and leadership quickly propelled him through the company. In 1976, he accepted a role as area manager and moved his growing family to Othello. That September, Rich and Karen celebrated the birth of their second daughter, Melissa.
Rich devoted 41 years of his life to Simplot, where he was known not just for his dedication, but also for the deep bonds he formed with colleagues, farmers, and friends. He never missed a moment to share his vast knowledge of agriculture or help mentor anyone who was curious to learn. He will be remembered as a proud supporter of the agriculture community who took great pride in his work.
Outside of work Rich enjoyed being a natural teacher and dedicated coach. He spent over 30 years coaching youth baseball and softball. Many of his favorite stories were related to his coaching years and the many kids he mentored.
He found his greatest joy in his family. Rich loved nothing more than chasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren-whether it was around the yard, through the stands at sporting events, or simply through everyday moments filled with laughter. His warmth, energy, and steady presence will be missed beyond words.
Rich is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Karen Jaeger; daughters Candi Jaeger and fiancé Marty; Melissa Jaeger and partner Greg; grandchildren Shannell and Jaeger; great-grandchildren Caleb, Callie, Colbie, and JJ Jaeger; and seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his father Roland Jaeger, mother Shirley Samson, stepfather Fred Samson, and three siblings.
Rich built a beautiful life through hard work, filled with love, loyalty, and laughter. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held on Saturday, July 26th at 1:00 PM at El Rancho Event Center, 2780 S Broadway Ave, Othello, WA 99344.
