Irene Sevey Obituary

IRENE GOULETTE (MICHAUD) SEVEY
January 18, 1936 ˜ September 18, 2024

Irene Goulette Sevey (Michaud), formerly of Vancouver, passed away peacefully at age 88 in Brewer, ME, following an illness.
Irene was born to Alphonse and Mary Goulette in Dexter, ME, in 1936, the youngest of six. She attended Husson College in Bangor, ME. In 1966, she moved to Vancouver with her then-husband, Jerry Michaud. They had a son, Chris, in 1969. Irene was a long-term member of Royal Oaks Country Club and a school volunteer.
In the early 1980s, she started a career as a teacher’s aide in the Special Education program at Covington Junior High. In this role, she positively affected hundreds of special needs kids and their families, receiving numerous commendations and developing many long-term friendships.
Some years after retirement from teaching, in 2007, she moved back to Maine to marry Howard Sevey, her high school sweetheart.
Irene worked hard to nurture and maintain her many friendships over the years. Whenever she saw someone in need, she was always the first to step up. A woman of deep faith, she was a devout congregant of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hampden.
Irene was preceded in death by her siblings, Gerard, Galen, Raymond, Roland and Rita. She leaves behind her husband, Howard Sevey, of Hampden, ME; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Traci Michaud of Portland; stepchildren, Stewart and Howard Sevey, Jr. and Shannon Sevey (all of Maine); granddaughters, Claire and Lucie Michaud of Portland; and many nieces and nephews.
The family asks that each of us honor her memory by striving daily to be of service to God and others.

John and Deborah Reinertson and family

November 15, 2024

We were sad to see this obituary. Irene had been a great friend of John's Mom, Maxine Reinertson and had stayed in touch with me every holiday sending me an email to ask how the kids and John were doing. She would go to our kid's baseball games in Vancouver when they were in school. It was always a joy to see and hear from her. She was always very thoughtful. We wish all the best to her family and are sorry for your loss.
