Leonard J. Snitily
March 14, 1931 - June 28, 2025
Leonard J. Snitily, 94, of Prague, Neb., entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb. He was born March 14, 1931 on the family farm in rural Prague, Neb. to Joseph A. and Mary (Fujan) Snitily. Leonard attended District 19, a one room rural schoolhouse. On October 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Loretta Ostry at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague, Neb.
For his entire life, Leonard lived and worked on the same farm that has been in the family since 1901. He had seen many changes in the farming industry from farming with horses to the high-tech machinery used today. Leonard enjoyed bee keeping for many years, an interest he acquired from his father. He also enjoyed listening to polka music and dancing with his wife, Loretta. Other hobbies included gardening, puzzles, reading, having coffee with friends, playing cards, sharing family history and the Czech language and watching Wheel of Fortune. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Leonard was a lifelong member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Plasi, Neb. Throughout the years, he served as church trustee, Prague Farmer's Union Co-op Elevator, District 83 school board member and Elk Township Clerk for nearly 60 years. He received the Aksarben Pioneer Farm Family Award in 2010.
He is survived by children, Ernest (Reye) Snitily of Columbus, Loraine (Patrick) Bartek of Weston, Dennis Snitily of Prague, Delores Snitily of Lincoln, Leonard Snitily of Prague, John Snitily of Prague, Phyllis (Scott) Wynegar of Ulysses and Darlene (Brian) Kastl of Lincoln; grandchildren, Michelle (Eric) Oberhauser of Panama City, Fla., Stephen (Elissa) Snitily of Omaha, Liz (Paul) Sutton of Wahoo, Katie (Brad) Potthoff of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Mark (Nikki) Snitily of Mankato, Minn., Nick (Mary) Bartek of Valparaiso, Alivia Bartek of Omaha, Nina Kastl of Lincoln and Charlie Kastl of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Lorah, Holly, Toby and Owen Oberhauser, Brandi, Gavin, Carly and Austin Sutton, James, Grant and Sam Potthoff, Ben, Henry and William Bartek, Xavier and Tessa Snitily; sisters-in-law, Marie Havlovic of David City, Edith Sousek of Elkhorn and Mary Ann Ostry of Prague; brother-in-law, Herman Ostry of Bruno; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta (2017); infant son, Clarence (1961); parents, Joseph A. and Mary Snitily; siblings, Marie (Bohumil) Polak, Joseph (Hedvika) Snitily, Anton Snitily, Charles Snitily, Martha Snitily, Emil (Irene) Snitily, Rose (Arnold) Machacek; parents-in-law, Louis and Lydia Ostry; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joe Havlovic, Angela (Frank) Sousek, Irene (Emil) Snitily, Georgia Ostry, Edward Sousek, Donna Ostry, Jerome Ostry and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, July 7, 2025, 10 a.m. at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 2880 County Road O, Plasi, rural Prague, Neb.
Celebrant, Rev. Carson Kain.
Visitation, Sunday, July 6, 2025, 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary all at Church.
Interment at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, Plasi, rural Prague, Neb.
