Marvin Boyle Obituary

Marvin D. Boyle

November 11, 1926 - July 7, 2025

Marvin D. Boyle, 98, of York, Neb., passed away on July 7, 2025.

Born on November 11, 1926, in Schuyler, Neb., to Dr. James and Margaret (Schumacher) Boyle, Marvin grew up in Columbus, Neb., and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1945. Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in France for 15 months at the conclusion of World War II. The State of Nebraska has posthumously awarded Marvin the World War II Recognition Medal.

He returned to Columbus after the war. In 1948, he hired on at CB&Q railroad and retired with Burlington Northern after 41 years. He started as a telegraph operator and later became a depot agent, with stops in Clay Center and Friend, NE, before settling in York, where he served as the depot agent until his retirement in 1988.

On October 24, 1955, Marvin married Elizabeth "Betty" L. Kroenke in Columbus, Neb. They shared a wonderful life together until Betty's passing on January 12, 2005. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Betty; his brother, Carroll and his sister, Phyllis.

He is survived by six children, Michael Boyle (Laurie) of Green Bay, Wis., Dan Boyle (Sidney) of Lincoln, Neb, MSgt Jeff Boyle of Grand Island, Neb., Katherine Brumbaugh of York, Neb., PO2/Sgt Greg Boyle (Jannell) of Camarillo, Calif., and Benjamin Boyle (Carrie) of Manhattan, Kans.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Taylor Kostal (Filip), Hailey Boyle, Max Boyle, Cole (Gianna) Boyle, Abby Boyle, Chelsey McMullen (Matt), Kaleb Brumbaugh (Lexi), Kambrij Brumbaugh, Jackson Boyle, Alex Boyle, Dane McGuire and Megan Fulkerson (Kyle). Marvin was blessed with ten great-grandchildren, Alden Boyle, Miles Kostal, Jack Kostal, Brooklynn McMullen, Barrett McMullen, Jace McGuire, Jayden McGuire, Stella McGuire, Grey Fulkerson and Bridger Fulkerson.

Marvin was well-known as a master pool player, having played for ~85yrs with an estimated 84,000 games, and was a member at the York Eagles club. He and Betty loved to dance and were regulars at the Elks Club and Flying V. Marvin was an avid fisherman, camper, storyteller, Boy Scout master, and do-it-yourself mechanic, always eager to lend a hand, have a conversation, or share a laugh. Marvin's legacy lives on in the countless memories he created with his family, friends, and community.
