Alan Kanegsberg Obituary

Alan Kanegsberg

Dedham, MA - Alan Kanegsberg (March 6, 1940) passed away peacefully at 85 (May 17, 2025). Alan leaves his devoted wife of 63 years, Helaine (Rosenberg), sons Howard and Philip, beloved grandson Torston, and sister Samantha K. Burkey. Alan followed his father and grandfather into printing, graduating from Carnegie Institute of Technology, with a BS in Printing Management (1961). He started at Blanchard Press on Long Island and in July 1962 he married Helaine. They started their family in 1963 and moved to NH with Rumford Press in 1969. He left after 20 years to begin a direct mail business with 2 partners and started delving into computers on the side. In 1985, he sold to his partners and bought 1 video store. After 10 years, he sold Total Video (5 stores) and "retired". Alan continued working the rest of his life mentoring small Business people. Alan actively participated (primarily as treasurer and computer guru) for Rotary (Bow and Concord), Temple Beth Jacob, Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Assoc., Concord YC, NH Symphony Orchestra, Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, Concord YMCA, and others. Alan's hobbies and passions included music, skiing (started 1971), model trains, boats, sailing, and Triumphs. The home built 1957-8 Sunfish is still in the family along with the refurbished Triumphs (1960 TR3 and 1964 TR4). Service will begin at Temple Beth Jacob, Concord, NH at 10:30 am May 20th. Interment will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord, NH. Shiva will be at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham, MA, Wednesday through Friday. Hours to be announced. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Alan's name to Capitol Center for the Arts, Temple Beth Jacob, or Rotary International.

I was very sad to hear of Alan´s passing. He was a dear friend and a great Rotarian.

When I was recruited to be Rotary District Governor, I said I would do so only if Alan would continue to be District Treasurer. I depended on him a great deal that year.

After that I would also seek his counsel on other matters. I was, in fact, planning to call him in this regard when I heard the very sad news.

My thoughts and prayers are with Helaine and the family at this most difficult time.

I am so deeply saddened to hear of Alan's passing. What a kind, good and funny man he was and all of us at the Capitol Center for the Arts were blessed by his friendship , support, advice and camaraderie. Our hearts are with Helaine and the family and all of us at the CCA send our love and condolences. Personally, I will miss Alan's big smile and hearty hugs. He was a terrific guy.

Dear Helaine and family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of a devoted husband and father. It´s been many years since we´ve interacted but I remember our friendship over many years. We had great respect for your family and always enjoyed our social contacts.
Fondly,
Barbara

Dear Helaine and family,
I am deeply saddened to learn of Alan´s passing and wish to express my sympathy. Alan was a respected co-worker at Rumford Press as we attempted to save it from the inevitable and I shall remember him for his untiring efforts.

Alan served as our district treasurer for our Rotary district for many years. He mentored many of us as we became district leaders and had to learn the financial side of being a district governor. He received the award of District Treasure for his years of service.
