Paul Scanlon Obituary
Paul Scanlon was an amazing husband, father, brother, kite flyer, plant liberator, pancake master and joyous soul. He passed away on July 18, 2025 at the age of 64. He was born on September 18, 1960 to the late Joseph John Scanlon and Barbara Ann Lynch Scanlon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 38 years, Beth Scanlon, and by their children: son Joe (and his fiancée Sam), their daughter Natalie and his mother in law Monica. He is also survived by six siblings, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family, as well as a host of dear friends and colleagues.
Paul's father passed when he was young, and his mother worked hard as a nurse to take care of him and his eight surviving siblings. With the family being of modest means, Paul began working from a young age and until very recently, remained employed and dedicated to his work.
A graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, Paul had a long career in engineering. He worked at General Electric and Wabtec for 40 years holding roles of increasing responsibility in engineering, sales, marketing and management.
Later in life, he never forgot his humble beginnings and would look for opportunities to give back to children and others less fortunate than himself, whether it was packing an extra lunch to give to someone in need, or quietly picking up the tab for a young family at a restaurant.
His dedication to his career was only a means to an end however, as above all he valued his family. While he took his role as a provider seriously, he always made time to spend with Beth, Joe and Natalie. He took time to learn the sports his children enjoyed, and served as a coach on several occasions. He shared with his children his love of gardening and taught them to prune and care for all manner of plants and was also known to "liberate" wild day lilies from roadsides and clippings to plant at the family home. Every Saturday was pancake day, and his "secret ingredient" pancakes were truly something special to cherish. On one of the numerous family bike rides, Paul discovered kite flying which became another family pastime that will live on as a Scanlon tradition.
He was strong in his faith, a fast friend to all he met, a considerate and supportive colleague, and a devoted husband and father. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His family invites all who knew him to a visitation on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation followed by a Memorial Mass to honor Paul's life at 12:15 p.m. with Monsignor Timothy Keeney officiating.
