UNION CITY -- Gene Paul Zimmers age 87, of Union City, Ohio, passed away at 9:11 pm at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana.
Gene was born April 9, 1938, in Greenville to the late Paul V. & Reva (Anthony) Zimmers. Gene was also preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Sipple, and brother, Rev. Charles Zimmers.
Gene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary K. (Diltz) Zimmers whom he married April 7, 1962; sons & daughters-in-law, Gary G. & Leslie Zimmers of Union City, Indiana, and Rusty & Teresa Zimmers of Union City, Indiana; grandchildren, Landry (Dylan) Doppler, Kelsey (Zach Pegg) Zimmers, and Aliya (Nate) Detro; great grandchildren, Brooks Doppler and Brooklyn Detro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene retired from farming and later went to work at Frank Miller Lumber in Union City, Indiana. He enjoyed farming and spending time outdoors. He was a family man and loved being with his grandchildren and great grandson. Gene was a member of Pleasant Hill Church in Union City, Indiana.
A private service will be held at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Bruce Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Jefferson, Ohio.

Gene and Mary, Rusty and Gary were neighbors of ours for several years. We all attended Pleasant Hill Church. We were blessed to have them as friends and neighbors.
