Jon Kendahl Jones was the firstborn child of Robert U. and Frankie E. Jones of Corinth. Jon was one of the first black students to integrate Corinth High School and was one of the brightest students in his class. He also worked hard to learn many practical skills, including playing a musical instrument and repairing electronic equipment.
Jon graduated as a top student from high school and went on to enroll at the prestigious HBCU, Tougaloo College, earning a degree in chemistry. He worked as a research scientist with Dupont before taking a position at IBM. Jon was a lifelong student and avid reader who continued to study a wide variety of subjects throughout his life, including science, technology, history, global cultures, and Black achievement. He relished teaching others and sharing his vast knowledge with anyone and everyone who would listen.
Jon resided in Florida before returning to make his final home in Corinth with his parents, who both predeceased him.
Jon was a cherished son, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by his surviving siblings, Jocelyn (James) Patton, Dannye (Wander) Jones, Robin Jones, Maria (Bobby) Harrison, Robert Norman (Cynthia) Jones, Martina Jones, and Neil (Stephanie) Jones and by his seven nieces and nephews.

Jon was my most prized student when I recruited him for Tougaloo College in 1972. I was so glad he accepted this opportunity to attend a HBCU. I checked on him and always followed his career. I am deeply sadden by his passing and extend my sincere condolences to his family. May God be the Glory!
