Barbara LaPiana Obituary

Barbara C. "Barb" LaPiana, 86

Barbara C. LaPiana "Barb", a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and respected member of the Santa Barbara community, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by her family.

Born on August 31, 1938, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Barbara lived a full and meaningful life. She was an integral part of Pepperdine University, Brooks Institute of Photography, and Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society, where her work left a lasting impression.

Together with her husband, Rick LaPiana, she was closely involved with the historic landmark restaurant Talk of the Town in Santa Barbara, California - a cherished part of the community for many years.

Barb is survived by her three daughters, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Her strength, sharp wit, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Early in her life and marriage, Barb created lifelong, meaningful friendships in Santa Barbara. Upon retirement, she and Rick relocated to Polson, Montana to be closer to family, where they built a new circle of cherished lifelong friends and enjoyed a quieter life surrounded by nature and love.

Barb was also known for her love of knitting, creating handmade pieces for her family, and for being an avid reader who always had a book nearby.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
