Darrell Glyndon Mims, age 68, resident of Hickory Withe, Tennessee and husband of Susan Mims, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, February 5, 2025 at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee. Darrell graduated Frayser High School in 1974 and later went to Memphis State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1985.
Darrell was born April 21, 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of the late Abe (A.D.) Mims Jr. and Marcelle Horn Mims. He was married on January 27, 1979 to Susan Haney Mims. Darrell was a member and president of the Mustangs of Memphis. He was a retiree from FedEx and worked many years at Kimberly Clark also. He had a love for music and enjoyed working on and cruising his classic cars, watching college sports, especially Alabama football (Roll Tide) and Memphis Tiger basketball, NASCAR, woodworking, shopping, cooking, and being a PawPaw to his three granddaughters. He was a loving, proud and devoted husband, father and PawPaw.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Mims; two children- son, Brad Mims (Ashley) and daughter, Melanie Jones (Henry); two sisters, Darla Kohlruss and Tina Haggerty (J.R.); and his three “little buddies” (granddaughters), Hartley Jones, Mabry Jones and Addison Mims.
Funeral Services for Darrell were held at 2 P.M. Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Daniel Jerkins officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Mike Cunningham, Bill Cunningham, Jonathan Bawcum, Chris Bawcum, Brad King, J.R. Haggerty, Mike Crawley and David Freeman. Honorary pallbearers were Cliff Woodruff, Charlie Boydstun, Cary Bawcum and Johnny Crawley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Memphis Oral School for the Deaf, 7901 Poplar Avenue, Germantown, TN 38138 or Fayette Academy, Attn: Development Office, 15090 Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.

I worked with Darrell at FedEx also. He always had a smile for everyone and always a kind work, and yes always a joke. He will be missed very much.
