Curtis Spott Obituary

Curtis Maynard Spott

November 13, 1938 - January 20, 2017

Exeter

Curtis Maynard Spott entered the world on November 13, 1938 in Oakland, California. He was born to Louis H. Spott and Barbara Eby Spott. He was raised in Walnut Creek and graduated from Las Lomas High. He attended UC Berkeley and transferred to San Jose State, receiving a BS in Science. He then became a licensed Professional and Civil engineer, followed by a Masters from USC in Business Administration. That led him to the Deep South for consulting and subsequently a position as an Engineer at Mattel Toys. He often recited the story about being in charge of the voice box for the first Chatty Cathy. His BFF convinced him to attend Law School at Western State University College of Law and being the " always seeker of knowledge" he jumped at the chance. While still employed at Mattel, he was able to graduate in 1974 with a Juris Doctorate degree.

After passing the Bar (first try) on a trip to the Sequoias with his family, he spotted Exeter. It reminded him of Walnut Creek and that's where he decided to practice law. He served two terms as the Municipal Court Judge of Exeter/ Farmersville and then returned to private practice. He loved his community and loved giving back. Curtis offered free legal advice to virtually all of the organizations in the town and was awarded Exeter Heritage and Exeter's Man of the Year. Curtis served on the Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, the Exeter Cemetery Board (for over 40 years), was an active member of Kiwanis (Past President and Kiwanian of the Year) and later Lions to name just a few.

He is survived by his wife Patty Spott; his children Nancy Kelley (John); Lesley London (Jonny), Dan Spott (Julie); Heather Thompson (Dustin) and Chris Journey. The lights of his life- his 12 Grandloves- Justin, Tyler, Ashlyn, Jace, Koby, Brodie, Chelsea, Achelle, Aubree, Aidan, Calissa and Isabelle.

A " Remembrance of Curtis" will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11 am in the Exeter Memorial building. Bring your stories and your love. Burial will be private.

Curt Spott, born almost exactly a month after me, in Oakland too. He was my best bud at Walnut Creek Grammar School. We always had fun together, especially swimming in his pool, trying to breathe underwater through a hose, we could never do it! He's the last of my friends from those days. My best to his family. Thanks to classmate Gordon Batesole, I have learned of the passing of Curtis. Grew up and went to Walnut Creek School and Las Lomas High - Class of 1956. My memories of Curtis is of a kind and loving person. Blessings to his family.

Curtis was one of my best friends in high school. Followed his career for many years and was amazed at his success. Last time I saw him was in 1982 when I stopped by to visit on a motorcycle trip. Wish I could have seen Curtis and his family again. Although we lost contact I am truly sad to hear of his passing. My best to his family.
