Don Holt Obituary

Don Lamar Holt

1936 - 2025

Don Lamar Holt passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born May 29, 1936 in Murray, Utah, to Byrum Matthew Holt and Helen Bertoch. He was a lifelong resident of South Jordan. He married Grace LeCheminant on June 19, 1958 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple December 20, 1960. He was a Jordan High School graduate and attended LDS Business College. Don started and ran three successful construction-related businesses and was well-respected and recognized in the commercial and industrial construction community. Don served in the United States Army and was a Morse Code communications specialist during the Korean War. Don loved the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, snow skiing, snowmobiling, and golf – he even had one of his catches published in a sporting magazine. He devoted many hours coaching his sons' baseball teams. He loved spending time at his cabin with his family. Don was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in bishoprics, priesthood quorums, and with the youth – teaching youth Sunday school classes and helping a great deal with the young men of the church. His greatest joy was his family. He lived as a neighbor to his brothers, sisters and parents for his entire life – all living among each other on the same street. He loved the frequent extended-family neighborhood parties, celebrating every possible occasion. Don was kind and respectful to everyone he met – he is loved by his family and many, many friends. Don loved children – his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren especially brought him so much happiness.

He is survived by his wife Grace, his children Annette (Wade) Newman of South Jordan, Stephen (Kathy) Holt, and Brad (Susan) Holt, both of Riverton; 10 grandchildren, 19 (soon to be 20) great-grandchildren, sisters Nancy (Bruce) Cowdell and June Pino. He was preceded in death by his son Robert, his parents, his sister Renee, his brothers Rex and David, his sister-in-law Donna Holt and his brother-in-law Sam Pino.

What a great man! We will miss his constant smile and kind manner. SO grateful we were able to move into this neighborhood and ward so that we could get to know him. We should all try to be a little more like Don.
