Barry Lowe Obituary
Barry A. Lowe passed away at home on July 7, 2025, with his wife, Mary Ann, holding his hand and his family surrounding him with love.
Born in 1940 in Worcester, MA, Barry was the son of Chester A. Lowe and Alyce C. (Gallacher) Lowe. He grew up on North Grafton, MA. Where he spent his boyhood summers swimming in Pratt's Pond, exploring local forests, fields and farms, and embarking on adventurous bike camping trips to neighboring states with his best friend, Marshall Johnson.
Barry earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He began his career designing submarine systems at Electric Boat, Groton, CT. He was proud of his contributions to the design of the NR-1. He continued his career in engineering management at G.W. Dahl, Bristol, RI and later at Metso, Shrewsbury, Ma.
He was a longtime member of the Mechanics Fire Co. #2, Warren Federal Blues, United Train of Artillery, Massasoit Historical Association and the Historical Society of Smithfield.
An avid traveler, Barry visited all 50 U.S. states and 102 countries across 6 continents. He enjoyed learning the geography and history of the places he visited but most of all interacting with the local people.
Barry loved the outdoors and cherished his daily walks with Mary Ann, exploring hiking trails throughout Rhode Island and Cape Cod, skiing at Bretton Woods and spending time with family on Mayflower Beach.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Ann (Wilson) Lowe, his children Elizabeth Lowe Andreadis (Phillip Birch) of Warren; Sarah Lowe Roughneen (John Roughneen)of Coronado, CA; Matthew A. Lowe of Warren. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Demetrios Andreadis, Esq., Sophia Andreadis, Nicholas Andreadis, Caroline Roughneen, Katie Frank (Dr. Jeremy Frank), Samuel Roughneen and Lily Roughneen, as well as his sister, Deborah A. Lowe of Dennis, MA. He was predeceased by his brother, Douglas A. Lowe.
Calling hours will be held at Wilbur Romano Home, 615 Main St., Warren on Friday, July 25, from 5-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Alexander's Church at 221 Main St., Warren, RI at 10 am on Saturday, July 26.
