Barry P. Elkins, 73, of Chino Valley, Arizona, formerly of Elkhart, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix.
He was born on June 27, 1952, in Elkhart to the late Leonard and Josephine (Ward) Elkins. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Greg and Timothy Elkins.
Barry is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Elkins, a son, Anthony "Tony" (Autumn) Elkins of Osceola, Indiana; four grandchildren: Malachi, Eli, Zeke and Brayden, one sister, Paula (Raleigh) Sjogren of Tennessee and one brother, Brett (Elizabeth) Elkins of Greenville, Tennessee.
Barry served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He then went on to a nearly 40-year career with the Norfolk Southern Railroad as a carman before his retirement in 2012. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. In his spare time, Barry enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling and dining out.
Visitation for Barry will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Chaplain Jason Brooks from the Elkhart Police Department will officiate and burial will be in Rice Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.

My sympathy to Paula and Brett and their families. I met Barry and his family thru my friendship with Greg in Jr HS at Nothside in Elkhart. I had several nice family dinners at their house and a tasty delicious meals prepared by Josephine.
