Charles Dorr Obituary

Last night @ 10:15 with a Hoot Owl hooting outside the windows, Pops passed away. I watched as he danced his way to the heavens to join my Mama. I watched his very last breath.
Charles Dale Dorr, born 11/19/1931(Pops, Charlie, Chuck) went home 6-25-2025 to join his beloved wife Sally. He passed at his Daughter & Son in laws home in the wooded hills of Sugar Tree, TN. He served his country in his younger years. Chuck retired from Fisher Body Ternstedt in Flint, MI. He was an avid hunter/sportsmen of everything! After retiring they left Davison, MI and made home in Mikado, MI. However after a few years, the sunshine of FL was calling them and off they went for 20+ years. Chuck moved to TN after Sallys passing (to be closer to his Daughter) and immediately got a fan club for his loving heart & giving ways. He made many friends in a very short time. He leaves his Daughter Tara Collins (Dorr), his son-in-law Richard Collins & many friends scattered from Michigan to Florida and Tennessee in between.
We'll close as he did his every phone call, give everyone a hug for me. He will be so very missed. Cremation has taken place & Chuck will be sprinkled with his wife at there desired locations.

Yesterday

Chuck was in his 90's when he arrived in Tennessee. The sparkle in his eye and his chuckle were his trademarks. He was instantly liked and made new friends wherever he went. I do believe the whole town of Big Sandy knew Chuck!
Often, Chuck would stubbornly insist on paying our lunch tab or make a generous donation to eat at the local Amish benefit.
Also, Chuck loved thinking up projects to do for his daughter, Tara. I was his resident artist to call upon whenever he needed a sign to be painted. He once hired me to paint a large sign--"Collins Corner"--to designate Rick and Tara Collins's property. Now when I see it hanging, I think of Chuck and the absolute glee he felt in wanting to surprise his daughter with this gift.
Always adventurous, he once arrived on his buggy, the 'Chuck Wagon', to take me on a bumpy ride to the river, just for fun!
Chuck made a new group of friends in Tennessee who will miss his mischievous self. My lesson from his life: Be generous, make friends wherever you are, no matter how old, and continue being a "kid"!
Thank you, Chuck Dorr.

Love leaves a memory no one can steal."

We had the privilege to meet Chuck through his daughter Tara L. Collins, whom he adores, about 4 years ago. Instantly we became family... we had that much of a connection. Chuck was a stand up man. He was old school, he opened doors for women, he carried things for women, he brought flowers to the women that he cared about. He was a true gentleman! Chuck could remember first and last names of friends and colleagues to tell you his history with GM motors, which were very interesting! The memories that he shared about his Sally was the most precious. We loved spending time with Chuck. Sometimes we would go to eat breakfast we would race each other to pay. He was so thoughtful of sending surprise gifts! The Rabbits foot was one best!!! Oh my gosh I can go on and on. We sure miss him and he will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We love you Chuck "Pops". We were the lucky ones to have gotten to meet you!!! Barry & Darla Lovell

My thoughts and prayers are with Tara and your family. I knew Chuck many many years ago and he was always a great guy. I reconnected several years ago with him and enjoyed conversations and seeing his to and Tara's Facebook posts. He was a very caring guy and loved Sally to pieces, as he did his daughter. Cherish the memories.

I´ve never written one of these before, but I wanted to for Pops. We weren´t technically related by blood, but we always felt like family every visit. I´m thankful every day for what time I had with my bonus Grandpa, Chuck Dorr. Even when I moved far away, he always made sure to let me know he was there checking in by liking every Facebook post. My favorite memory of him was showing up for a visit with one of my mom´s best friends (my Auntie Tara) and Pops would show up with a smile and a hug each time, without fail. There aren´t many people left in this world who love you like family, even when you´re just a neighbor or a family friend. Pops was a rare and beautiful soul, full of love, laughter, and light. He will be missed dearly every day for as long as we live. My heart is with his family during this excruciating period of pain and loss. I can confidently say, I believe that Heaven gained one of their best angels ever when they decided to take Pops. Whatever you´re doing out there Pops, we love you and I will carry your love and memory for the rest of my days.

This is something I should have done days ago, I just couldn't. My life has changed forever. You helped give me birth, I helped give you infinite rest~From being a carefree rebellious teenager to a responsible caring Daughter. I know I made you proud, as you did me. Rest easy Pops. Give my Mama a mooch! I'm working on my ticket daily, I know I'll see ya'll again. In the meantime, I'm trying to superglue my heart. I'll forever miss you Pops. . .

My Uncle Chuck was very special to me. We had a unique relationship in that I was born on his birthday and named after his wife. I have so many wonderful memories with Uncle Chuck and will always cherish them. Our family holidays, vacations with boating, snow mobiles, fishing, playing cards, always with laughter and stories.

I appreciated his thoughtful letters and cards that he sent which always brought me joy and smiles.

I love you Uncle Chuck and I am sure my Aunt Sally and the rest of our Elders are happy to have you with them in heaven. You all can get back to your antics and watch over Tara, CoCo, Jackie and I and our families. We need our Guardian Angels and we were blessed with our time our families.

The last of my Elders I say goodbye and I am glad I got to speak with you recently. You will always have a special place in my heart.
Tara and Rick thank you for taking such care with my Uncle, I know he loved being there in TN at the cabin with you. Blessings and prayers.

Remembering Pops Chuck Dorr

Pops Chuck Dorr was more than just a grandfather to me - he was my Pops. He was caring, gentle, and always ready to share pieces of his life with me through stories and wisdom. I never really had a relationship with my grandpas until Chuck came into my life.
I loved hearing about his memories, the lessons he´d learned, and the moments that shaped him. He used to tell me I did too much, and he´d laugh as he remembered how his wife would sit patiently in the car until someone came to open the door for her. He shared many great stories.
I was grateful for the chance to care for him in return. Helping him with even the smallest things felt important, because I knew how much those little acts could mean. Whether I was listening to his stories, stopping by to visit, or just spending time together, every moment mattered.

Pops Chuck left me with a lifetime of memories and a reminder that the simplest gestures can carry the deepest love.

Although we didn´t live close by, we did enjoy our phone time! He will be missed. We are glad he is at peace and with Sally. As he said so often "see you soon!" We will see him again when it´s our time to greet him with Jesus our Savior.

Dear Dorr Family,

Very sorry to hear about the passing of "Charlie" as we called him at work. I worked with your father at the Fisher Body Coldwater Road Plant for several years. He was a great General Foreman in the Paint Department and I was Labor Relations Supervisor and Assistant HR Director. We had great conversations about work and also his personal life. I grew to admire and respect your father - have often thought of him after I left Coldwater Road. He worked on the second shift most of the time and I would often fill him in on was going on in his department in Labor Relations. We had a great relationship.

Best,

Lanny Whetstone
