Merton Deventer Obituary

Merton Burnell "Burnie" Deventer, 94, passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2025, Born on March 22, 1930, Burnie grew up north of Leo, Indiana. A proud veteran of the Korean War and was a lifelong Leo Global Methodist Church member.

Burnie is survived by his children, Michael (Christie) Deventer and Marlene (David) Lake; grandchildren, Andrew (Suzanne) Lake, Samantha (Garrett) Cochran, Pamela (Rob) Eames, and Jacob (Lindsey Bishop) Lake; Andrea (Brett) Butterfield; great-grandchildren, Amaya (Ricky Parker Jr.) and Chloe Lake, Kaitlyn and Adrian Lake, Zoe Bishop, Ruby and Hudson Lake, James and William Butterfield; great-great-grandson, Rishon Parker; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Berdetta, whom he was married to for nearly 69 years; son, Daniel Deventer; grandson, Taylor Deventer; parents, Homer and Myrtle Deventer; and brothers and sisters. A Celebration of Life will be held at Leo Global Methodist Church on June 22, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. The schedule is as follows: 2:00 p.m. - Doors Open, 2:30 p.m. - Memorial Service & Tribute, 3:00-4:00 p.m. - Visitation & Gathering. Memorial contributions may be made to Leo Global Methodist Church in his name.
