Lori Horcsik Obituary

Lori "Michelle" Horcsik
January 18, 1959 - July 1, 2025
Lori "Michelle" Horcsik, 66, of Butte, Alaska, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, in Palmer, Alaska.
Born on January 18, 1959, in Bar Harbor, Maine, Michelle was the daughter of Ralph and Judith Raymond. She spent her early years in Trenton, Michigan, where she met Alan Horcsik in the 10th grade. Their bond grew into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on December 30, 1978. Together they welcomed their first child, Janelle Marie, in 1979. After Alan was stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska, the family eventually made their home in Butte, where they built a life and raised four children.
Michelle pursued a career in nursing with dedication and compassion. A graduate of nursing school, she served patients across Alaska with skill and empathy. Her career included roles at Valley Hospital in Palmer, Denali Orthopedics, the Pioneer Home, and as a traveling nurse with SEARHC in Sitka. Her warmth and professionalism left a lasting impact on the many patients and colleagues she encountered throughout her career.
Known for her sharp intellect and dry wit, Michelle was a realist who spoke her mind with honesty and humor. Her quick wit could bring laughter even during difficult times. She was a source of strength to those around her always ready with practical advice or a well-timed joke.
Michelle had a deep love for Alaska's wilderness and embraced adventure at every opportunity. She treasured time at her cabin on Lake Louise, fished in Chitina, went four-wheeling with loved ones, and hiked the Chilkoot Trail. She even braved whitewater rafting on the Gakona River with her sons' Boy Scout troop. Whether cheering at hockey or football games or exploring the outdoors, Michelle lived life fully and shared that joy with others.
Michelle is survived by her husband of 46 years, Alan Horcsik of Butte; her children: Janelle Nugent (Todd) of Wasilla; Brian Horcsik (Jamie) of Palmer; Joseph Horcsik (Joselyn) of Wasilla; and Faith Horcsik (Katsu) of Palmer. She also leaves behind her father Ralph Raymond of Trenton, Michigan; and siblings: Renee Vos of Gibraltar, Michigan; Danielle Rimer (Jeff) of Hillman, Michigan; Spike Raymond (Lynn) of Henderson, Nevada; Derrick Raymond of Flat Rock, Michigan; and Liz Mazei (John) of Southgate, Michigan. Michelle is also remembered by many beloved grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Judith Raymond; her baby brother Luke Raymond; and her brother-in-law James Vos.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on July 11, 2025, at Saint Michael Catholic Church in Palmer, Alaska. A celebration of life will follow at a later date at the American Legion.
Michelle will be remembered for her bold spirit, loving heart, sharp mind, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
