Arthur L. "Art" DeWitt, 69, of Elkhart, died on Friday, July 18, 2025, after an extensive battle with lung cancer. Art passed away with his loving wife by his side at the Center for Hospice, Esther's House.
Arthur was born on Jan. 18, 1956, in Elkhart, to the late Arthur and Clara Elizabeth (Warner) DeWitt, and attended Jimtown High School.
On Dec. 27, 1982, Art married Karen Steinbaugh in Elkhart. She survives along with two sons: Arthur (Tabitha) DeWitt and Brian DeWitt, both of Elkhart; three grandchildren: Corey, Ariana and Arthur Lee; one great-grandson, Dawson; two brothers: Mitch (Veronika) DeWitt of Florida and Mike DeWitt of Elkhart; and five sisters: Wanda (Mike) Keyser of Elkhart, Donna Campbell of Florida, Becky (Tom) Fallon of Arizona, Nanette (John) Gillis of Elkhart and Nancy Sue Imbro of Florida.
Art was employed for many years as a transport driver in the RV industry. He also worked as a machinist for Jessen Manufacturing, Jacobs Steel and Gunite Corp. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed frequenting the drive-in movie theater. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his Yorkies, Jay-Jay, Dakota and Missy.
Visitation for Art will be held on Tuesday, July 22, from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Hartzler- Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
