Virginia "Gee Gee" Marie Baker
Maryville - Virginia "Gee Gee" Marie Baker, 89, of Maryville, IL, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, with her beloved husband by her side.
Born on August 8, 1935, in East St. Louis, IL, Gee Gee was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (née Lazarz) Libera. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, John, Andrew, and Frank Libera; and three sisters, Cecilia Pipitone, Sister Mary Andrew, and Helen Libera.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne Allen Baker, whom she married on August 8, 1970. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with her cherished dog, Angel.
A dedicated educator, Gee Gee earned a master's degree in American History from the University of Illinois and retired after 30 years of service in teaching. She was a faithful member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with Father Rob Johnson celebrant. She will be laid to rest at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Fairview Heights, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or The Muscular Dystrophy Association. Contributions will be accepted at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
