Danny Noorman Obituary

Danny Lee Noorman, 79, passed away on October 23, 2024, in Petosky, MI. Born on April 25, 1945, he dedicated four years to serving in the Army, bringing pride to his family and country. Following his military service, Danny joined the Grand Rapids Fire Department, where he served with distinction from 1967 until his retirement in 2001 as a Deputy Chief. Danny graduated from Union High School and furthered his education at GRJC. He was known for his witty, funny, loving, and caring personality. In his retirement, Danny moved to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, a place he cherished for its natural beauty, far from the hustle of city life. He often remarked how he loved "Where the trees are taller than the buildings, and the nearest stop light is an hour away."

A man of faith, he was an active member and elder at the Germfask Lutheran Church. His hobbies included painting, traveling with his family, and volunteering at his church. Danny loved the outdoors and cherished the time spent with his beloved wife and family.

Danny is survived by his wife, Ann Theresa Noorman; children, David (Tracie) Noorman, Mark (Brenda) Noorman; grandchildren, Samantha, Whitney, Danny (Maddie), Jessica, Marissa (Brandon), and great-grandchildren, James, Savannah, Sydney, Ryder, and Amelia. He also leaves behind his sister Faye Rensland, and brothers Leonard (Shirley) and Larry (Cindy) Noorman, along with brother-in-law William Arnold and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Martiena Noorman; in-laws, Stanley and Anna Bozek; and siblings-inlaw, Mary Schmidt, Ted Rensland, Rose Arnold, and Gene Schmidt.

A celebration of life will be held at the Grand Rapids Firefighters Union Hall, 1930 Fuller NE, Grand Rapids, MI, on Wednesday, November 13, from 4-7 PM. A private burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery on November 14, where family will gather to lay him to rest. Where to begin? Firstly, I am sending my love and prayers to Theresa and family. Dan and Theresa were a large part of our (my late husband Pastor Art Bode) life at Grace Lutheran Church in Germfask in friendship and service. Dan had a special type of humor, was a great Bible study leader, Elder and loving and caring husband to Theresa. He was loved large by all who knew him in the UP. He was a regular participant at Memorial Day services to show his love for our country. I will miss him. I just imagine the conversation he and my husband are having in heaven. May God comfort you with the sure and certain hope of eternal life.

Danny was my first officer on Squad 1. He was a newly promoted Lieutenant and I was freshly out of the academy as a firefighter. As we first sat down for his "officers expectation speech" of me, he ask where I was from and I replied "Reed City´ Michigan". To which he said, " Oh my gosh......Wrights Bakery.....right downtown.....South side of main street.....get there by 5 am and the icing on the donuts is still hot!" And he was spot on correct as I was a paperboy who delivered to the bakery each morning during my youth. Danny touched us all with his hilarity and deep concern for his fellow man.........we are all better men and women for knowing him. May God Bless Danny the Noorman family.
