Sandra Probst Obituary
Sandra E. (Hazen) Probst, 73, of Winter Haven, Florida, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 27, 2024.
She was born July 15, 1951 in Hastings, Michigan to LaVern and Violet (Edger) Hazen. She grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan with her brothers Roy and Gary, and her sister Patty.
After graduating from Battle Creek Central High School, she married Robert Mixon. They soon started a family having their son Derek, but the two went their separate ways shortly after.
She worked in food service, specializing in assisted /senior living. A couple of those places being Villa Elizabeth and Heather Hills. She later pursued a Certified Dietary Manager degree from Auburn University.
While attending parent-teacher conferences, she met future husband Fred Probst. After they married, the two bought a farmhouse in Alto, Michigan where they raised their boys. They enjoyed playing co-ed softball. He was the pitcher and she was the catcher. They attended Ada Bible Church, where Sandie would later be baptized. The two enjoyed having their grandchildren stay with them at the farmhouse on the weekends.
During the summers, she liked going camping, canoeing and fishing on the dock. She loved spending time with family and friends. Playing games, ping pong, volleyball, bowling and cards. She often hosted holiday parties with plenty of food prepared. Sandie and Fred would dress up as Mr. & Mrs. Clause for Christmas, and she would make the special golden egg for the Easter egg hunt, for all to enjoy.
In March of 2001, she lost Fred to cancer. A few years later, she moved back to Battle Creek. She worked at Laurels of Bedford and Plainwell Pines while living there.
Good friends Tom and Judy Grace had moved to Florida, and it only took an extra cold winter to convince her to move there too. They had rented a few pool homes together in the Orlando area, but after a few years, she purchased her home in Winter Haven. She worked at Spring Lake Rehabilitation Center until she retired.
She loved living in Winter Haven, where she had made several new friends and became very close with Mary Walters. She enjoyed going to the pool, attending various group activities and parties, and spending evenings at The Pub. She would frequently go on cruises with her friends. She loved having fun and never wanted to miss a party.
While living in Winter Haven, she met longtime companion Bob Campeau, who also had moved there from Michigan. During their relationship, he looked after her very attentively. He took her on some very memorable trips, including trips to Hawaii and Alaska. She lost Bob in September of 2023.
She loved it when friends and family, especially her grandchildren, would come and stay with her. Always being most hospitable and accommodating. Often having a meal ready in the crock pot, and the fridge and cupboards stocked with food and drinks.
She and Bob visited Michigan each summer for three to four weeks, staying with Link, a friend of Bob's who lives in Davison. She would also spend her time staying with her son, Derek, and her sister, Patty. They visited with family and friends throughout their stay. She enjoyed going to graduations, weddings, baby showers, or whatever was that summer's highlight. She loved having the entire family gather at the lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred Probst, companion Bob Campeau, brothers Roy (Sue) Hazen and Gary Hazen, and niece Rachel Hazen.
She is survived by her sons Derek (Michelle) Mixon of Hudsonville, Ted Probst of Wayland, Todd (Deb) Probst of Ada, her sister Patricia (Pete) Bechman of Battle Creek, Grandchildren DJ, Baily, Jordan, Breanna, Brayden, Madelyn, Brittney, and Katie, her great granddaughter Amelia, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
