Doris Mae Monson was born May 2, 1938, to parents Andrew and Bertha Hanson at Montevideo. Doris Monson was baptized on October 5, 1938, and confirmed on April 6, 1952.
Doris attended school and graduated from Granite Falls Public Schools, Granite Falls.
After high school she worked for JCPenney in Minneapolis. She then traveled to Seattle, Wash., and worked for the telephone company. After a year she returned to Minnesota where she worked for Yellow Medicine County Family Services.
Doris was united in marriage to Clair Monson on January 30, 1960. To this union, six children were born.
Doris and Clair moved their family from Granite Falls to the Slayton area in 1965. In 1972, Doris and Clair bought a farm north of Hadley where they resided for nearly 30 years. Doris assisted Clair with livestock farming with hogs, cattle, and sheep. Doris pursued a career with home health care working as a home health aide in Slayton for Countryside Public Health. Following Clair's retirement, Doris and Clair moved to an acreage south of Madison in 2000 where Doris continued her career as a home health aide with Madison Hospital Home Health.
In life, Doris enjoyed being with her family by taking many family trips with them. Doris and Clair especially enjoyed any time spent with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren attending various sports events and activities. She was an avid baker and cook and was well known for her "Swedish Tea Ring", a tradition she has passed onto her youngest daughter, Debra. It was very common for neighboring farmers to show up for morning coffee and enjoy her baked goods while living in Hadley. Doris volunteered much of her time while raising her children to the Lowville Prairie Scouts 4-H club and Christ Lutheran Church youth group of Slayton. Doris was a hospice volunteer for Sanford Hospice following retirement in Madison. Doris was the true definition of a loving caregiver as demonstrated by the care she provided to her husband during his illness and death.
Death came to Doris on May 15, 2024, at Prairie Hill Assisted Living Memory Care in St. Peter surrounded by her loving family. Doris suffered from Alzheimer's dementia, diagnosed in 2017. She reached the age of 86 years and 13 days.
