Alice Smith Obituary
Alice Cornelia Smith was born on October 3, 1946, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Bertie Bogan Tutt and the late Jack Kelly. She was raised in a loving family and educated in the Spartanburg County school system where she developed the values of faith, resilience, and compassion that would define her life.
Alice had a joyful spirit and a heart full of laughter. She possessed a sharp sense of humor and never missed a moment to share a joke or spark a smile. Card games, especially spades, were one of her favorite pastimes, and she played with a competitive spirit and cheerful charm that brought joy to her family and friends.
She was a phenomenal cook whose meals were prepared with love and served with warmth. Her kitchen became a gathering place for family, friends, and neighbors, where stories were shared and memories were made. Alice's love for gospel music was unwavering. She deeply enjoyed attending concerts and celebrating her faith through the power of song. A devoted member of Rutherford Church of Christ, she found strength and peace in her relationship with the Lord. She was also associated with True Word Baptist Church.
Alice loved her family dearly. Her favorite color was purple, a perfect reflection of her quiet elegance, spiritual depth, and royal strength. She supported her loved ones through every stage of life, offering encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love. She was a sister, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend who left an indelible mark on every heart she touched.
She was preceded in death, along with her parents, by her brother, Edward Tutt and her beloved son, Walter Tutt.
Left to cherish her memory are: her devoted daughter, Candace Alexander and her husband Paul of Forest City, North Carolina; sons Timothy Edward Tutt of Bostic, NC wife April and Cornelius Earl Tutt of Spartanburg, SC; her brothers, William Kelly of Virginia, Richard Kelly of Bronx, New York, Samuel Tutt of Anderson, South Carolina, Joe D. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, DeVante' Tutt Boyd and Cheontre Alexander; her great-grandchild, Janola Chanel Tutt-Boyd; her extended family, Stephen Hughes and family; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.
On Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Fair Haven of Forest City, Alice Cornelia Smith peacefully completed her earthly journey. Though she has departed from this life, her love, her laughter, and her legacy will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
