With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hubert "Butch" N. Dockery, who left us on July 5, 2025. Born on August 28, 1953, in Travelers Rest, SC, Butch spent his life bringing joy and music to those around him. He was a loving husband to his sweetheart, Jewel M. Dockery, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years filled with laughter and love. Together, they raised two beautiful children, Beth Dockery Looper and Shane Dockery, and were proud grandparents to Landon and Zerah Dockery.
Butch was a successful electrical engineer, spending over 20 years at O'Neal Engineering in Greenville before retiring to live out his passion for music. After his retirement, he opened Main Street Guitar and Drums in Travelers Rest, where he shared his love for music by repairing and building guitars. A proud graduate of Travelers Rest High School, he was known for his perfectionist nature and his uncanny ability to play instruments by ear.
Music was a huge part of Butch's life; he had a soft spot for the classics, especially The Beatles, Moody Blues, Bread, and Jimi Hendrix. He was also known for his warm and outgoing personality. Butch cherished friendships, both old and new, and could often be found laughing and enjoying life. As one of the first members of Upcountry Community Church, he shared his talents by playing the organ and spread kindness to everyone around him. Having spent many years playing in various bands, Butch learned much from his fellow bandmates and valued the music as well as their lifelong friendships.
Butch had a big heart for animals, loving everything from horses to dogs and cats. He was generous, thoughtful, and always willing to lend a hand to those in need, embodying a light and happy spirit that brightened the lives of many.
His memory is carried in the hearts of his wife, Jewel Dockery; daughter and son-in-law, Beth Dockery Looper and Craig Looper; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Crystal Dockery; adored grandchildren, Zerah Dockery and Landon Dockery; a step-sister, Frances Maxey McDonald; two sisters, Dottie Rhoden and Rita Johnson and her husband Richard; two brothers, Donald Dockery and his wife Teresa and Barry Dockery; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ginny and Daniel Pierce.
In addition to his many friends and neighbors, Butch also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, his devoted fur baby Roscoe, and many "grand" fur babies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert "Bob" Dockery, Jr. and Delcie Johnson Dockery; mother-in-law, Anne Romano; father-in-law, Charles Milk; and brother-in-law, Joe Rhoden.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Upcountry Community Church in Travelers Rest, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family members are invited to come as they are, flowers are welcome, and memorial donations may be made to a worthy
