Tammy Durham Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tammy Ann Durham, 54, of Greenville, South Carolina on Friday, July 4, 2025. Born in Greenville SC, she was a daughter of Betty Hickey and the late Wallace Hickey. Tammy was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and warm spirit. Her passion for life was evident in her love for Hallmark movies, where she often found joy and inspiration. A lover of fashion, she always strived to look her best, embodying a girlish elegance that made her truly unique. Tammy also cherished her trips to Gatlinburg, where she created lasting memories with her loved ones. In addition to her mother, left to cherish her memory are her sons, Christian Durham (Ashlee), and Drake Smith; and granddaughter, Madison Durham. In addition to her father, Tammy was preceded in death by her son, Austin Durham; and sister, Nettie Hickey. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 6:30 PM at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest Chapel. Tammy's warmth, laughter, and love will be missed by all who knew her. In our hearts, she will always remain. Memorials may be made to her son, Christian Durham. It was every Friday that I ventured into the United Bank and Tammy was there with a big smile, happy to see me, and I was happy to see her. I have known her for 13 years, learned of her happy times, her sad times, her fun times....we talked about so much! I made her laugh, even giggle, with my quick funny stories or thoughts; I can hear her voice now, saying, "you ain't right," but I answered, "But I am safe!"
The last time I saw her was about two months ago. I complimented her on her pretty blouse, and as always, when I was leaving, she blurted across the room,"Be safe!" And, I would say, "You, too, have a blessed weekend." And now, I can only hear her voice, and see her big smile. For the last 2 months or so, when I knew she was in the hospital, I prayed day and night, and overnight when I was up, for her. It reminded me of when her sister, Netty, was very sick, and I did the same. Now, I will put Tammy's picture next to Netty's in my antique cabinet. I also had Nettie's name on my card ministry list to send an inspirational card to each month. As I was going through the list two weeks ago and saw Tammy's contact number & name for Nettie, I said to myself, "I won't need this any more...." and IMMEDIATELY God's voice said to me, "Yes you will." I didn't know why...but now I know, because God had His plan to take Tammy back home to Heaven. I am sorry this all is so long, but it helps ease the loss of my friend, and it is so hard to believe. My prayers continue for Tammy that God has a beautiful place in Heaven for her, prayers for her family, friends, co-workers, and all who mourn her. And maybe, when I went to the bank on all those Fridays and asked her how she was and she smiled and said, "I am goood," now I can ask her how she is doing and hear her voice, picture her smile, and she will tell me, "I am goood."
