Catherine Hensley Obituary

CATHERINE "CATHY" FAYE HENSLEY, 71, peacefully passed away on September 10, 2025 in Cleveland, OH.
She was born October 29, 1953 in Huntington to Creda Billups and the late Fred Edward Billups.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Hensley; her children, Patrick (Mary Morgan Hensley) and Phillip Hensley; her grandchildren, Tristan, Harper Kate, Wrenley Quinn, and Isabella Hensley; and her sisters, Tina Bryant and Janie Billups.
Cathy graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in 1971, and attended Marshall University, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority, and graduated with a BS and MA in Education. A true "Daughter of Marshall," Cathy was the first to graduate college in her family and gleefully watched her final Marshall football game just days before passing. After graduating college, Cathy was an educator in WV with stints at Lincoln County Elementary, Hite Saunders Elementary, and most significantly, Davis Creek Elementary, where she taught for 15 years.
She especially cherished the bond she shared with her Davis Creek teacher and staff friends until the day she died.
An avid reader, Cathy taught thousands of children to read over her career, and continued substitute teaching well into retirement so that she could continue to share her love of reading with the world. Her favorite and final pupil was her granddaughter, Harper Kate Hensley (age 6), best of friends until Cathy's final days.
Her other interests were her grandchildren, Marshall sports, her nephews and nieces (Hensley Cousins and the Bryant Boys), her church and circle of family/friends at Pea Ridge Baptist Church, spending time with her sisters and mother, spending time in Florida with Auntie Joyce and Cousin Kelly, music and musicals (!!!!!), watching her sons play sports (Moses Mamas rise up!), and cheering against WVU sports.
A celebration of life will occur on October 4, 2025 at Pea Ridge Baptist Church. The visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to the Benjamin the Brave Foundation, a charity that that supports children affected by Medulloblastoma and their families. (www.benjaminthebrave.org). Additionally, the family asks that you consider a donation to Cathy's "home away from home" and place of worship, Pea Ridge Baptist Church (www.pearidgebaptist.com)

My deepest condolences to Cathy´s family. She was a dedicated kindergarten teacher to my sons years ago. I saw her not long ago and she reminded me that she still had "Webb Man´s" paperclip necklace gift from nearly 35 years ago! We will think of her fondly and always be grateful for her impact on their lives.

I met Cathy and her family when I was in 2nd grade. I have wonderful memories of everyone in the family but Cathy was probably the first person to try and educate me about rock n roll which has been a life long interest/passion...(she loved Chicago,Doobies,etc)...I learned about working on small engines from her dad and have carried those lessons with me too. God Bless You Cathy.
