LEONARD BOWEN Obituary

LEONARD DELBERT "DEB" BOWEN Deb Bowen was born at home in Montague County, Texas, on November 19, 1924, and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. He was the only child of H.L. "Harv" and Isabel Busby Bowen, raised south of Saint Jo, Texas. He attended the Peabody School through 7th grade, graduated from Saint Jo High School in 1942, and went on to North Texas Agricultural College (now UT-Arlington). He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines from 1943-1946 as a Petty Officer 2nd Class aboard a LCT 950. After leaving the service, Deb began a long career in the lumber sales industry, stretching from Kansas to New Mexico to Texas. In 1955, he established Bowen Lumber Sales, wholesaling lumber from his Irving home office until 1990. Upon his retirement, he moved to the Texas towns of Perryville, Cleburne, and to the Sherman-Denison area. Deb was married to Joyce Hawkins of Clovis, NM, in April of 1947, until her death in May 1983. They had one child, son Tandy Bowen of Denison, Texas. Thereafter, he was married to Mildred "Midge" Stamps from October 1984, until her passing in April 2016. Raised in the Christian faith at the Church of Christ of Dye Mound, he later worshiped at Plymouth Park Methodist Church in Irving, First Baptist Church of Perryville, and Field Street Baptist Church in Cleburne. Deb is survived by his son Tandy Bowen (Lynn) and grandsons Ryan Bowen (Brittany), Daniel Black (Nikki), and Andrew Laffiteau (Erika), along with great-grandchildren Aiden Bowen, Gianna Laffiteau, Kyle Laffiteau, and Catherine Laffiteau. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Joyce Hawkins Bowen, wife Midge Stamps Bowen, and many friends and family members. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, July 18, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fisher Funeral Home at 604 W. Main St., Denison, Texas. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, Texas, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Denison, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or to the charity of your choice.
