Robert Holloway Obituary

Reverend Dr. Robert Daniel (Dan) Holloway Jr of Irmo, SC passed to his heavenly home on July 3, 2025, at the age of 72. He was surrounded by loving family in his last days including his wife of 49 years Carol Forbes Holloway, son Rob Holloway (Marisa), daughter Ginny Wolfe (Jason), and five grandchildren Corbin, Daniel, Eli, Matilda, and Ella Grace.

Born in Birmingham, AL on August 19, 1952, to Robert Daniel Holloway Sr and Georganne Raley Jacob, he was the oldest of five siblings. Dan learned the value of service and caring for his siblings after the early death of his mother.

His dedication to service led him to be called into ministry. He earned his Doctor of Divinity at Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA. Dan started his ministry at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon, GA where he met his wife, Carol. He would go on to serve at several churches culminating with 29 years as the senior minister of Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC where he oversaw rapid growth of the church and expansion of facilities including a new sanctuary dedicated in 2010.

He was also very active in the Fort Mill community. He co-chaired two bond referendums for Fort Mill School district, served on the school district strategic planning board and the school improvement council at Fort Mill High School. He was a part of the Fort Mill Rotary club for several years serving as president and receiving the Paul Harris Award. Additionally, he volunteered for many of his children's activities driving school buses on field trips, leading boy scouts, and volunteering at Bethelwoods Camp and Conference Center.

Dan retired from Unity Presbyterian in 2017, and he and Carol moved to Irmo, SC to be close to family. Retirement did not stop his service to the church. He continued to serve others through Pinnacle Leadership Associates where he worked with churches in conflict and coached younger ministers. He also served on the board of the Presbyterian Communities.

Dan had talents beyond the ministry. He was a published author and co-author of three books, including a children's devotional This is the Day. He also had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed playing guitar. Dan loved playing golf and rooting for the Atlanta Braves and Alabama football. One of his biggest passions became travel. He and his wife Carol traveled the country and several places around the world including Scotland, Israel, Honduras, Prince Edward Island, Grand Cayman Islands, Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, Pike's Peak, Alaska, California, and countless beach towns such as Edisto, Hilton Head, St. Simons Island, and Siesta Key, Fl.

Dan impacted the lives of countless people in his ministry and life beyond. He had a calming presence in the most difficult of times and a powerful speaking voice that captivated congregations. He was a faithful servant to the Lord and a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather with a deep love for his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on July 12, 2025, at Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715 or Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, 2721 Dutch Fork Rd, Chapin, SC 29036.

Carol, this is Sylvia Echols. I have such fond memories of Dan and his faithful service on the board and executive committee of Success by Six of York County. He was a steadying and wise contributor. As often happens, the obituary revealed so many good works he performed. So grateful for this saint. My condolence to you, and all his loved ones.

Dear Carol and Family,

I have many grateful memories of Dan's service as a parent at school improvement council meetings, his input at school committee activities and his wise counsel to always consider what 1) what was best for children? 2) what could we do to best serve the community?

With sympathy for each of you,

Linda Locklier

I will miss my brother greatly. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and pastor. He led with his heart.

Dan was one of the very best pastors of his generation...warm, caring, spirit-directed, a sense of humor, patience in ministry and life. I was playing golf with him when he made an eagle on a par four from a terrible lie in the rough. Dan: surprise and Joy. That was Dan.
