Doris Barger Yates, 101, of Hickory, passed away Friday, March 28, 2025, at Carolina Caring.
Born March 20, 1924, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Percy Glenn Barger and Ola Mae Propes Barger.
Doris was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Hickory and had retired from Spainhours. She was a member of the United Women of Faith and the Ladies Auxiliary of Longview Fire Department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Yates, Sr.; her daughter, Diane Yates Miller, her daughter, Janet Yates Cline; and a brother, Floyd E. Barger.
She is survived by her children, Linda Yates Pittman (Dub) of Hickory, her son, Carl Edward Yates, Jr. (Tammy) of Hickory; grandchildren, Casey Wallace, Wesley Miller (Zia), Kristi Miller Kaylor (Steven), Jeffrey Miller (Sasha), Brian Yates (Joy), Mark Yates, Laura Cline Carter (Lucas), Allyson Cline (Ron), Sarah Cline Dodd (Kevin); and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April, 1, 2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, 80 28th St. N.W. Hickory, NC 28601. The funeral will be from 2 to 3 p.m. with Pastor Jan Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family wants to thank her many caregivers, Elaine, Wanda, Robin, Haley, Pat and Bradley, for their years of loving care to Doris.
Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory is serving the Yates family.
