John Murphy Obituary

Indianapolis - It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce the passing of John Alfred Murphy, Prince among Men, on Oct 13, 2025, aged 93.

John was born in Chicago, IL, the son of William and Margaret Kerr Murphy. He graduated from Fenger H.S. in 1949, attended Illinois St. Teacher's College, then graduated from Indiana University in 1954 where he met his cherished and radiant wife, Jane Edith Adams.

John worked for Dura Container, Burnett-Binford, Lumber, and then owned and operated Indpls Paper Container.

He was president of the Rotary Club, a long-time driver for Meals on Wheels, blood donor and a volunteer speaker for Junior Achievement in local high schools.

Not content to languish in retirement, John merrily drove an Uber into his late 80s..

Ever kind, generous, cheerful and full of Irish wit and good humor, John will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his still beautiful wife, Jane, his four devoted children, James Aikman, Jennifer Thomas-Adams (Joel), John Adams Murphy (Sandy), and Jolie Murphy Girton, 10 adored grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews as well as 2 great-grandchildren and friends far and wide.
