James Sou Obituary

Sou James Ming Age 97, passed away on July 8, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born on February 28, 1928, James lived a life defined by devotion to family, a spirit of adventure, and a remarkable life that spanned continents. He served in the Chinese Navy, where he developed a strong sense of purpose. After his military service, James began a career in Taiwan's shipping industry, which took him around the world and included several formative years living in Japan. He eventually made his home in Philadelphia, where he worked as a facilities engineer at the former Girard Medical Center (later the North Philadelphia Health System) until his retirement. Outside of work, James was an avid photographer, a lover of good food and drink, and a lifelong traveler with curiosity about the world. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Chung Wang, as well as his parents and sisters in China. He is survived by his wife, Jin Kang Zang; his daughter, Connie Sou (Jason Ballou); his son, Howard Sou (Vanessa Vidro Sou); and his granddaughters, Summer Ballou and Ashlee Sou. A private family viewing will be held in North Miami Beach. James will be remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, and zest for life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Philadelphia Zoo.
