Gary R. Phelps

November 19, 1956 - February 25, 2025

Yemassee, South Carolina - Gary Raymond Phelps, a cherished father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on February 25, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on November 19, 1956, to Raymond and Shirley Fischel Phelps, Gary was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and ability to befriend everyone he met. His naturally warm and lighthearted presence brought a sense of calm and comfort to those around him.

A graduate of Farmington High School, Gary owned and operated a flooring installation business in Connecticut before relocating to South Carolina. In his spare time, he loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing. The joke was that he "taught his son how to fish, while his son taught him how to catch fish."

He is survived by his daughter, Kayla Phelps Bracken, and son-in-law, Myles Bracken, of San Diego, California; his son, Connor Phelps, of Yemassee, South Carolina; his daughter, Lindsey Phelps Bane, and son-in-law, Michael Bane, of Boston, Massachusetts; and his adored grandson, Cameron Bracken. Gary's loving presence will also be missed by his dogs, Bubba and Jenny.

He is also survived by his brother, Michael Phelps, and sister-in-law, Lisa Phelps, of Farmington, Connecticut; his sister, Lori Phelps Caperino, and brother-in-law, David Caperino, of Lebanon, Connecticut; his sister, Patricia Phelps Shaulis, and brother-in-law, Richard Shaulis, of Canton, Connecticut; and his sister-in-law, Susan Phelps, of Naples, Florida. He was predeceased by his brothers, John Phelps and Jeffrey Phelps, and his parents, Shirley and Raymond Phelps. Gary is also fondly remembered by his loving nieces and nephews.

A burial ceremony will be held in Farmington, CT. A local Celebration of Life for Gary will be held at a later date.

Gary's passing leaves an immeasurable void, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
