John Worden Obituary

John Wesley Worden passed away peacefully at home, April 9th, 2025. John was born May 7th, 1946, in Jackson, Michigan to John M. and Shirley E. (Merchant) Worden. John was a 1965 graduate of Vandercook Lake High School. After graduation he served in the Army in air rescue and recovery during the Vietnam War. Shortly after returning from Vietnam John married Linda M. Gilchrist on March 29th, 1969. John and Linda just celebrated 56 years of marriage. He also became a Christian in 1985 and was baptized at Vandercook Lake Baptist Church. He was loyal employee with Consumers Energy as a lineman in charge, retiring after 39 years. Hunting, fishing, gardening and feeding the birds were his favorite hobbies. He also loved taking many trips up to the cabin, his favorite vacation spot. He took joy in spoiling all his grandkids, no was never an option with Papa. John is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Tricia Ewer, son John & Amy Worden, daughter Stephanie Worden all of Jackson. Grandchildren; Jacob, Ryan, Noah of Jackson, Olivia (Ibrahim), Alexa of Belleville and Anya (Kyle) of Morgantown, Kentucky. Great-Granddaughter, and little bestie, Freyja & Great-Grandson Uriah (due in September). Sisters; Sandra (Earl) Prater of Charlotte, Betty Olds & Helen Coleman both of Jackson. Several special nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Bonus granddaughter Brittany Foster. Special friends Ginny McCleery and Chrissy Hatfield. Preceded in death by his parents, half-sister Linda Worden, brothers-in-law Woody Olds & Bill Coleman and best friends Gerry Malone & Bill McCleery. Special thanks to Dr. Hirth and the whole Oncology team, the hospice team and Henry Ford Health. Services will be held Wednesday, April 16th, 2025 at the Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave. Jackson, Michigan 49202) at 1:00 P.M. with visitation beginning at 12:00 P.M. Final resting will be at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
