Evelyn Eads Obituary

Evelyn F. (Atteberry) Eads, 83, of Cerro Gordo, left her family on April 13, 2025 after a long fought battle with leukemia.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur.  Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday April 17, 2025 at the funeral home in Decatur with Pastor Terry Leach officiating.  Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials in Evelyn's honor may be made to The Brethren Church of Cerro Gordo, OSF Children's Hospital in Peoria in honor of her great-grandson; or a charity of your choice.

Evelyn was born April 30, 1941 to Cecil and Nellie (Miller) Atteberry.  Evelyn attended Cerro Gordo schools and graduated from Blue Mound High School in the class of 1959.  She married Ciney Eads on October 23, 1960.  Evelyn was a 4-H leader for the Mix N Match club for many years, a member of Home Extension for over 50 years, and involved in the Cerro Gordo quilters group.  She spent much of her time researching family genealogy and published a book "The Dependents of Isaac Eads". Evelyn mapped and recorded several local cemeteries.  During COVID, Evelyn and her daughter Luellen made over 2500 masks for people in the community.  Evelyn was an excellent seamstress and sewed her family's clothes for many years, did alterations and made many wedding dresses.  She was an excellent cook and spent many years decorating cakes.  A family holiday was not complete without her pies, noodles and yeast rolls. During the time of caring for her husband, she made many beautiful quilts for her friends and family and also donated several to her community that will always be treasured. She cross-stitched and made 4 quilts during school board meetings. Evelyn was an excellent homemaker, cherished mother, and loving wife.  Evelyn took excellent care of her husband Ciney for over eight years while he was in a wheelchair.  She enjoyed teaching her grandkids her many talents.  Evelyn enjoyed volunteering and helping others and will be remembered for her hard work, dedication to family, and great meals.

Surviving are her four children: Brenda (Robert) Dillow of Manassa, VA, Luellen Eads of Cerro Gordo, Renee Horn of Marion, and Aaron (Carole) Eads of Monticello; six grandchildren: Amanda Dillow, R. Cordell Dillow, Andrea Eads, Anneliesse (Quintinn) Eastin, Braxton (Selena) Abbott and Makayla (Dylan) Abbott; five great-grandchildren; sister, Edythe (Bernard) Bork; brother, Carl (Linda) Atteberry, and sisters-in-law: Carolyn (Dick) Fansler and Maralyn Heckman.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Terry Horn; brother, Raymond Atteberry, brothers-in-law: Galen Heckman and Dale Eads; and sisters-in-law, Martha Reilly and Anita Atteberry.

Evelyn's family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the excellent care she received by the nurses and doctors at Decatur Cancer Care Center as well as OCC at Memorial Medical. Many thanks for the compassion and care provided by the hospice nurses with Transitions in Evelyn's last week.  Special Thanks to all who donate blood and plasma.

Timothy 4: 7-8: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me but also all who have longed for his appearing.
