Edward Dean Schall, age 85 of York, NE died Friday July 4, 2025 in Lincoln, NE.
Edward Dean Schall was born on November 30, 1939 in York, Nebraska to Harold E. and Helen L. (Law) Schall. He attended grade school at the District 8 country school until 7th grade when the school was consolidated to the Bradshaw School District. During his Senior year and continuing after graduation, he was employed by Herb Tracy Plumbing and Heating Co. After his father had health issues, he helped on the farm and worked part time for Clay Brumbaugh on Mamco buildings and concrete work. In 1956, he joined the Nebraska National Guard in York and served for 6 years. During that time, he was called for active duty at Fort Carson Co. for 11 months, "Division of 5th Army" as a small vehicle operator. He then resumed farming full time in 1963 for 47 years before retiring. On June 13, 1964 he was united in marriage to Lola Jean Triska at the United Methodist Church in Pawnee City, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born, SueAnn Marie and Michelle Rene'.
In 1972, he and Lola opened Countryside Fabrics in downtown York and had that business for 37 years. They expanded from sewing classes and fabric to custom draperies and quilting. When Ed wasn't at the farm, he was repairing Bernina sewing machines. During those years, they received numerous small business and leadership awards, including the Sam Walton Business Leader's award and Bernina dealer of the year. Ed was a member of the Elks, Eagles, Legion Club, VFW, Czech Club of York and many other state and local organizations. He sat on the board for the Bradshaw Fire Department and was on the Stewardship and Building/Grounds Committees at the First Presbyterian Church of York. Ed played a integral part of the Lincoln Creek Cemetery Foundation and helped maintain and mow it for many years. Ed's greatest joys in life were spending time with his grandchildren and traveling with Lola around the world with family and friends. He enjoyed going to Husker football games both near and far and watching Husker volleyball.
He is survived by his daughters, SueAnn Vice and Michelle (Scott) Boden of Lincoln. Grandchildren Shaylee Vice, Davianne Strilkivsky (Vice), husband Joe Strilkivsky, Conner Boden, fiancé Makenzie Starlin, Emily Boden, Katelynn Boden all of Lincoln, Kolbi (Vice) Marxen of Muscatine, Iowa and Miranda (Vice) Stauffer of Moscow, Iowa. Great-Grandchild Alivia Jo Vice of Lincoln and special family friends Michael Lewis, Will Dawson and Scott Petro.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Jean (Triska) Schall, parents Harold and Helen Schall, mother and father-in-law Arthur and Amelia "Mollie" Triska, son-in-law David Vice, grandson Charles "Charlie" Edward Boden, many relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Reverend Rodney Goertzen officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8 from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M at the mortuary. Ed's family will greet family and friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Burial will be at York's Greenwood Cemetery following the service with full military honors. Luncheon will follow the burial at the York Country Club.
