Kathleen Beth Purcell-Westphal

November 18, 1939 - July 13, 2025

Kathleen Beth Purcell-Westphal, 85, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, surrounded by family. Born Nov. 18, 1939, in Superior, Neb., to Howard and Mildred Larsen, she graduated as valedictorian of Superior High School in 1957, and earned her associate's degree from Fairbury Community College.

She married James Purcell in 1959, and later Hugo Westphal in 1992. Kathleen was a devoted mother, gifted massage therapist, and active member of the United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, nature, and serving others.

Preceded in death by husbands, James and Hugo; sister, Shirley Heier; and grandson, Justin Wagner. Survived by daughters, Shelley Wagner (Dale), Cindy Freeman (CJ), Deborah Connaway (Wes); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor Stiles and Joanne McChesney; and many extended family and friends.

Memorial service: Aug. 1st, at 11 a.m., at St. Mark's UMC Chapel, Lincoln. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page. Graveside service: Aug. 2nd, at 11 a.m., at Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.
