Timothy Gabriel Obituary

Timothy W. Gabriel

November 24, 1951 - July 8, 2025

BURLINGTON - Timothy W. Gabriel, 73, of Burlington, Wis., passed away at his home on July 8, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was born in Burlington, to Walter and Barbara (Hetzel) Gabriel, on November 24, 1951. He graduated from Burlington High School, Class of 1969. After high school, he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served two years. On June 14, 1975, he married Eileen King at St. Mary Church. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary, a milestone Tim was committed to achieving.

Tim worked for 30 years as a liquor salesman for Capitol Husting. He excelled in this role, utilizing his outgoing nature, loyal personality, and charm, resulting in many customers turning into friends. Through his work, he and Eileen enjoyed traveling to numerous destinations, making memories with his beloved colleagues.

In retirement, Tim found new pursuits that filled his appetite for life. He always took great pride in his lawn and expanded his responsibilities mowing other properties. He volunteered serving hot lunch at the St. Charles campus of Burlington Catholic School, delighting in the relationships he made with the young students. Tim was the founder of a weekly Thursday golf league. He organized foursomes, what course they'd play each week and, arguably his favorite part, the 19th hole camaraderie that followed each round. In the off-season, he coordinated a card club that gathered whenever golf couldn't occur. He reveled in the competition, but more importantly, the friendships and time spent together each week.

Tim was a lifelong baseball fan. As a young boy, he fell in love with the game thanks to the Milwaukee Braves. He collected baseball cards and was a season ticket holder of the Milwaukee Brewers for decades, rarely missing a game. He was the co-owner of a fantasy baseball team. He used his vast knowledge of the sport to produce winning teams, still co-managing his team in his final days.

Above all, Tim loved his wife and family. He was incredibly proud of his children and adored his grandchildren. His presence and support in their lives was often impossible to miss, using his booming voice, larger than life personality or unmatched whistle to cheer them on.

Tim is survived by his wife, Eileen; their children, Peter (Kendra) and Maureen (Tom); and grandchildren, August and Greta; sisters, Karen Webster and Lisa Rausch; brothers and sisters-in-law, Peggy (Gerry) Hancock, Jerry (Carole) King, Karen (Simon) Clough, Kathy (Jeff) Behrens and Ken (Patti) King; along with many beloved nieces, nephews and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Dominic and Bernice (Geraghty) King; brothers-in-law, Michael Busch, Duke Webster and Marc Rausch; nephew, Dwight Webster; and pet duck, Stanley.

Tim's family is forever grateful for the tremendous care he received along his cancer journey. Many thanks to Dr. Virani and the cancer clinic staff, Dr. Shanshal and the Mayo Clinic team, St. Luke's 12S nurses, Brenda with Aurora Home Hospice and Theresa Ketterhagen.

In lieu of floral memorials, donations may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Burlington Catholic School, or Catholic Central High School.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 3 until 7 p.m. at Schuette Daniels Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 12 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. A private burial will take place at a later date.

I was down at my mom's visiting, I came across the obit in paper. My sincere condolences to family and friends. I knew Tim from basic training at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He always had a smile, & could make friends with anyone! I don't know where he went after basic training, reading the obit, memories came back. May he rest in peace & his memory be a blessing! God Bless, Lance Petro

I knew Tim as a genuine person and friend. Tim and I played softball together over the years in the Burlington area. He was a spark-plug type of player. Never down and Always upbeat. May he rest in peace.
