Helyn Agee Obituary
November 8, 1942 - July 9, 2025
Belton, Missouri - Helyn S. Agee, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and respected nurse educator, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, at the Kansas City Hospice House. She was 82.
Born on November 8, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, Helyn was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Garnetta Shouse. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Larry Shouse, and her niece, Jessica "Hilee" Shouse.
A graduate of Southwest High School (1960), Helyn earned her nursing degree from Avila University and a master's in nursing from the University of Kansas. She dedicated her career to both nursing and education, inspiring generations of students with her knowledge, compassion, and professionalism.
Helyn's greatest joy was her family. She shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with her loving husband, Ray Agee. She was a devoted mother to her children, Ron Jurgeson (Patty Jurgeson) and Charlotte Kerner, and a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Ben Jurgeson, Eric Jurgeson (Catherine Dempsey), Ronald "Leo" Jurgeson (Hannah Jurgeson), Abigail Dauma (Dr. Phil Dauma), Max Kerner, and Clark Kerner. Helyn was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Owen Jurgeson-Dempsey, Patrick Dauma, and Theodore Jurgeson. She is also fondly remembered by her niece, Sarah Shouse and family; her stepson, Mike Agee (Wanda Agee); stepdaughter, Sandi Agee and grandchildren Daniel Agee, Caleb Agee, Bransen Hyde, Jorden Hyde, and Deven Willmon.
Helyn will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion to family and others.
A private family service will be held to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, in gratitude for the compassionate support they provided.
