Derek Atler Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Derek Joseph Atler, age 30, who left us far too soon on June 24, 2025. Though his journey was marked by struggle, Derek's life was filled with deep love, lasting bonds, and an unwavering loyalty to the people and passions he held dear. Born on December 1, 1994 in Medford Oregon, Derek was a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin and a friend. He had a wild, adventurous spirit that found peace in the quiet stillness of nature. Whether tracking deer through woods or casting a line into the Rogue River, Derek was most at home with a rod or rifle in hand. Hunting and fishing weren't just hobbies for him-they were ways of grounding himself, honoring tradition, and finding joy. Despite the challenges he faced, Derek never let go of his family. No matter where he was in his journey, he made sure to check in, call, or drop by-his way of reminding those who loved him that he hadn't forgotten, that he still cared deeply. His laughter, his bear hugs, and his stories will be missed around every family table. Derek's battle with addiction does not define his life. His memory will serve as a reminder that everyone deserves compassion, grace, and the chance to be remembered for more than their hardest days. He is survived by his parents, Fred and Chrissy, his siblings, Tyler (Shyanne) and Allisan, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will always carry his memory in their hearts. A memorial service will be held on July 26, at Jackson County Fairgrounds Mace Building, beginning at 1:00pm. Rest easy, Derek.
