Curtiss Farrell Obituary
January 7, 1955 - June 25, 2025
Dr. Curtiss Dean Farrell, 70, passed away on June 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Sahuarita, Ariz., where he retired after many meaningful years in the Siouxland community.
Born on January 7, 1955, in Kearney, Neb., Curt grew up in Gibbon, where he was a bright, hardworking, and mischievous boy who loved golf and wrestling. He earned a state golf championship and a scholarship to McCook Community College before returning to farm life in southwestern Nebraska.
He later pursued medicine, completing his undergraduate studies at Nebraska Wesleyan and earning his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Curt completed his residency in Sioux City, Iowa, and went on to teach and practice family medicine, eventually founding Dunes Family Medicine in Dakota Dunes, S.D. Known for his compassion, integrity, and tireless work ethic, he cared for generations of families with empathy and dedication.
Curt married Kimberly Freese in 1990, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and resilience. Despite health setbacks in midlife, Curt remained devoted to his family, patients, and passions, including Husker football, golf, Elvis impersonations, and storytelling.
He is survived by his wife, Kim; children, Brad (Margo), John (Amanda), Lance, Katie (John), and Cameron; grandchildren, Arianna, Lucas, Preston, Colette, Natalie, Isla, and Emerson; siblings, Denny (Vicki), Lee (Beth), and Donna; and many beloved friends and former patients. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Davine.
A celebration of Curt's life will include two gatherings: a golf outing and lunch at the Gibbon Golf Course on Friday, July 18, and a brunch at Dakota Dunes Country Club on Sunday, July 20. My deepest sympathy to Curt's family and friends. I worked with him years ago at the Family Practice Center in SiouxCity. What a lively spirit he had! He was always quick with a smile and had the corniest jokes ever! The bigger the eye roll,the harder he laughed. He loved to pull a good prank. So very sad to hear of his passing. May God give you peace and strength in the days to come.

Kim and family-Lowell and I are so very sorry to hear about Curt. He was the one that discovered our daughter's heart problem and put us in touch with an amazing heart doctor at Children's Hospital that helped us deal with this devastating news. We are eternally grateful to Curt for everything he did.. We always loved his jokes and his outgoing personality. We will not be able to see you in Dakota Dunes for the brunch as our granddaughter gets married that weekend in Omaha but know we are thinking of you all!

I will miss my hometown friend. Curt´s family farmed a few miles from my grandparents. He cared for my mother in her final days in Green Valkey . He was extraordinarily compassionate and caring. Rest well friend.

One of the best. His heart was big and always caring to myself and my family. From his young days as a resident at Family Practice to his practice at the Dunes. I have many special memories of him. Thank you Dr. Farrell for your spirit and dedication. Oh yes, we can´t forget your humor!! My prayers to your family. Rest in peace!
