Marcia Lynne Murtha was born October 28, 1961 to Donald and Ann (Reimnitz) Thury in Parkston, SD. After the death of her father, her and her mother moved to Vermillion where she started school before moving to Carson, CA where she lived for most of her youth. She moved back to Parkston during her junior year of high school and graduated from Parkston High School in 1980.
She married the love of her life, Kerry Murtha, on July 23, 1983. They moved off the farm into their family home in Parkston in 1990. Together they had six beautiful children. There was nothing Marcia loved more than being a mom and a nana to her grand kids. She loved going to her kids' sporting events, choir and band concerts. Her grand kids were the light of her life, and she had a lot of time to make memories with them at their monthly 'Murtha Meals,' family holidays and their annual Labor Day camping trip-a recent addition, but something Marcia looked forward to each year. Any reason to get together as a family, listen to 'oldies,' play games and make memories was what matter most to her.
While Marcia was happiest at home, she spent many years working with her mother at the bakery in Parkston. She even went back to college after she turned 40 years old to earn her nursing degree from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. She then worked for several years at The Good Samaritan Society in Tripp and most recently at Our Home in Parkston.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Kerry of Parkston; mother, Ann (Louis) Schoon of Parkston; step-sibling, Katina (Chad) Voje, of Mitchell SD; grandmother, Leona Reimnitz of Parkston; 6 children: Billy (Carly) Murtha of Sioux Falls, SD; Emily (Ryan) Spellerberg of Sioux Falls; Erin (Andy) Berg of Sioux Falls; Tom (Alexandria) Murtha of Yankton, SD; Michelle (Von) Murtha of Parkston; and Karleen (Adam) Thomas of Milbank, SD; and 8 grandchildren: Marshall, Clarke, Lennon, Addison, Elle, Mack, Luka and Rosemary.
